Initial Teaching Metaphor
My name is Alysha Rocher and I am an aspiring Elementary school teacher. This goal began in my school aged years, and then grew into adulthood as I found that teaching and nurturing others was always at the core of the work that I have loved.
A teacher who has been a big influence in this decision was my high school Math Teacher. I always looked up to how genuine she was in her classes. I can’t remember exact moments or lessons, but I do remember always looking forward to her classes, feeling fully supported and celebrated, clear instruction, and a teacher that was always authentic in front of her students.
My most memorable learning experience was when I completed a diploma in Remedial Massage in Australia. This experience taught me so much more than massage skills. It taught me how to focus my energy on my clients, actively listen to them and then adapt my practice to their needs, and how to use the nurturing side of myself to care for others.
I have chosen hiking as my Metaphor for Teacher as it is a huge part of my life and my identity.
